Week of January 17, 2017 Schedule and Beyond
Sisters students are fortunate to receive exceptional learning opportunities every day in our schools. With Oregon having one of the shortest school years in the nation, we believe that it is important that we make up for lost instruction time by adding school days back to our calendar.
To date, a record seven school days have been canceled district-wide this school year due to hazardous weather. This year has been quite an anomaly, and we are only in January.
Due to this loss of school days, I have been working with the board, administration, our teachers, and classified associations to modify next week’s schedule and gain back a student contact day.
Sister Elementary School: Conferences cancelled with full days of school Tuesday to Friday.
Sisters Middles School: Conferences cancelled with full days of school Tuesday to Friday.
Sisters High School:
- Tuesday: Full day of school with a special schedule so all seven periods meet during the day.
- Wednesday: First day of finals – finals schedule, buses on regular schedule.
- Thursday: Second day of finals – finals schedule, buses on regular schedule.
- Friday: Third day of finals – finals schedule, buses on regular schedule.
Monday, January 23rd will be the start of the 2nd semester.
Our High School staff has been working to modify their finals based on the information they have covered so far this semester. If you have concerns or specific conflicts, please work with your student’s teacher and Mr. Hosang as we understand the need for some flexibility in certain situations.
When will we make the rest of the days up? In an effort to ensure that our students have the access to learning that they deserve, Sisters School District is exploring all options to recover instructional days, including extending the school year into summer break.
The state has minimum school year seat time requirements for all students. Additionally, Board Policy EBCD-AR states, “From the second day on, students will make up all missed Instructional days”. After the modification to next week’s schedule, that would give us 5 more instructional days to make-up.

A message from Sisters School District 6 to staff, students, parents, and community.
This morning we met with the structural engineering firm working on our bond project. We reviewed structural plans of all of our schools and performed walk-through visual inspections for potential stress points. We have removed snow from the elementary school roof. All Sisters School District buildings have been deemed safe. School will resume on Tuesday, January 17th.
All evening and weekend activities are on as scheduled. If you have any questions about activities or athletic events, please contact your coach, club advisor, SHS athletic director, or SPRD.
We appreciate your support and understanding during this process.

Sisters School District buildings are closed due to concerns about heavy snow accumulation and building structural safety.
We will do further structural assessment and snow removal until the buildings have been deemed structurally safe. At this time, the buildings will remain closed through Monday, January 16th.
Any athletic events, programs, or activities scheduled to be held at locations other than Sisters School District buildings can proceed as planned. Please consult your coach, club advisor, or SHS Athletic Director with any specific questions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
