female student making guitarDespite the challenges of the Pole Creek Fire, I would like to let you know that we have had a great start to the school year! I wanted to celebrate the fact that all three of our schools have been rated as “Outstanding” by the Oregon Department of Education. This news has just been made public today and we are thrilled! We are coming off of one of the best school years in our history with Sisters Elementary School being designated as a “Model” school (top 5% in the State of Oregon) and Sisters High School earning the “Oregonian Cup” award for outstanding athletic and academic achievement (number 1 in the State). We were able to accomplish these feats through the dedication of our teachers, the support of our community and hard work on the part of our kids! Despite 3 years of budget cutting, our staff and students have stepped up to the plate and made academic achievement a priority. I am proud of our accomplishments and I look forward to another great year!

We will be communicating with you on a regular basis this school year to update you as to the work we are doing, so you will know about the many good things that are going on in our district. As you may know, we will need to renew the Local Option this spring in order to maintain our excellent educational programs and small class sizes. Hopefully our communications will help to educate you as to the many good things the Local Option helps us to provide. Our number one goal is to provide an education that allows all students to move on to successful post high school experiences and become model citizens.

I want to remind you that we have two school board meetings each month. The first meeting is a business meeting which starts at 7:00pm and the second meeting is a work session which begins at 3:30pm. During our board work sessions we will be hearing reports from a variety of faculty on the work they are doing engage kids in learning and insure academic and co- curricular success. Board meeting dates and times are posted on our website. We encourage you to join us for Board work sessions.
